Connor played soccer this fall. His league was organized through a local church, where Connor and Mom go to MOPS. The league had 4 teams in his age group, and they met each Saturday for 10 weeks. First they practiced for ½ hour. Then they played a game for a ½ hour. All of this was done, of course, on a ½ field. They focused more on soccer instruction than on the competition, which Mom and Dad think is appropriate for 4 - 6 year-olds. On the first day the players received nice, new jerseys and picked names for their teams. They all seemed to like Connor's suggestion of "The Amazing Purple Panthers".
Connor's team won their first game, hands down. The only goals the other team made were in their own goal. Keep in mind that 4 - 6 year olds don't play soccer like older kids. No positions, no strategy...just 8 little bodies running after the ball! Connor's team ended their 10-week season winning more games than they lost. Way to go, Panthers!
Connor scored goals and got assists in pretty much every game. Mom's favorite moment was when he left the "herd" to defend his team's goal and save them from being scored on. Dad's favorite moment was when he broke away from the pack and dribbled the length of the field for his first goal.
Mom and Dad enjoyed watching Connor play and seeing him learn some new skills, including learning to play as a team member. Several special visitors came to his games... we'd like to thank you for coming: Grandma Chris, Gram, Aunt Karen, and Diamond.
It's nice to have people (and dogs) cheering you on!
