This spring, Connor's Sunday School class held a Bible memorization contest. And Connor won! He memorized about 10 verses plus one very long bonus verse. Each time he recited a verse in class he got to move his fish one space closer to the treasure chest. At the end of the contest, Connor's fish had moved the farthest.
On "Kids' Day", each of the grade level winners got to recite one of their verses for the adults in big church. Connor quoted his bonus verse, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. He received a new Children's Bible with the stories and songs on cassette. Many of the voices and names are quite recognizable...Steven Curtis Chapman and Roy Clark, just to name a couple. Connor really enjoys his award, and reads and/or listens to it regularly.
Children's Pastor Kirsten says that we will have a memorization contest each spring. He stays in form by memorizing a simplified verse each week for Sunday School, and another verse each week for his Friday school enrichment program.
